Physical Therapy Sciences, BS

Qualification Information


Degree holders will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the physical therapy sciences
This entails that holders:

  1. possess knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of the body, age related changes and the main deficits associated with health problems/accidents and their effects on activities and participation in the society
  2. knows movement and practice related changes of the body structure and function
  3. have acquired general understanding and insight into the main theories and concepts that physical therapy is based upon, with emphasis on theories of current motor control and the conceptual of the International Classification System on Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)
  4. possess knowledge about the interaction of health and contextual factors (environment and personal factors) and its effects on functioning and disability.
  5. possess knowledge of holistic approaches in prevention and treatment, the role of the physical therapist and other healthcare professionals as well as procedures of the health care system
  6. can apply the basic elements of information technology and are familiar with the basic concepts  of scientific methodology
  7.  have the latest knowledge in physical therapy scienecs
  8. are knowledgeable about the elements of patient/client management in physical therapy (examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention and re-examination)
  9. be familiar with regulations and ethical values related to the work of healthcare professionals and the effects of policy making on professional work
  10. possess basic knowledge in the field of communication and management


Degree holders can apply the methods and procedures of the physical therapy sciences
This entails that holders:

  1. can use the relevant equipment, technology and software
  2. can apply critical reasoning in problem solving
  3. have acquired an open-minded and innovative way of thinking
  4. can rationalise their decisions in a professional manner
  5. can independently apply and evaluate methods
  6. recognize when further information is needed and have the ability to retrieve it, assess its validity and apply in an appropriate manner
  7. can use reliable information resources in health sciences and related fields
  8. possess good communication skills and are able to provide professional services, education and counselling in the field of prevention, ergonomics and health promotion for individuals, groups and communities (public health)
  9. possess basic knowledge about responding to a medical emergency or environmental threats


Degree holders can apply their knowledge and skills in a practical way in their profession and/or in further studies
This entails that holders:

  1. have developed the competences and autonomy needed for keeping up with progress and taking on further studies within the field of physical therapy
  2. can work in an independent and organised manner, set goals for their work, devise a work schedule and follow it
  3. can apply effective communication skills, both in speech and writing
  4. can participate actively and lead work groups/team work
  5. are capable of interpreting and presenting theoretical issues and research findings using appropriate methods and technology
  6. can participate in management and administration
