Objective of a study programme:
To train a teacher of history and the English language, who is able to efficiently teach history and the English language using CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology, to teach history in the Lithuanian and English languages, to teach English as a foreign language in both formal and non-formal education institutions.
Having completed the study programme Pedagogy of History and the English Language, the graduates will:
demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the political, social, economic and cultural processes of World History with reference to the achievements in historiography, as well as be able to apply them in practice in both Lithuanian and English;
be aware of the political, social, economic and cultural processes of the History of Lithuania and be able to render the knowledge in the context of World History in both Lithuanian and English;
be able to search for, collect and handle documents and other (audio-visual, digital, etc) materials in Lithuanian and English, explore and interpret them following the main methodological principles of history in the period of studies and life-long education afterwards;
be able to create a well-structured text in Lithuanian and English on different topics of World and Lithuanian History, and transfer it to target groups of the society;
be able to use the English language at C1 level (following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (2008)) employing all the four language skills (listening, reading writing, and speaking);
have basic knowledge on the structure of the English language and its use, as well as be able to demonstrate it in the process of education;
be aware of CLIL principles and methods, and be able to apply them in practice while teaching history and English according to CLIL principles; be able to creatively apply the theoretical knowledge and awareness of psychology, education science, health education, history, English language didactics and CLIL in the teacher’s work; during the practical training in pedagogy, acquire cultural, generic, subject-specific and special competences, provided for in the Description of Professional Competences of Teachers, as well as be able to develop their professional career;
develop a disposition to foster one’s own personal and collective identity, cooperation with and tolerance towards other cultures and persons with different dispositions;
take into consideration other team members’ opinion and render one’s own ideas in order to successfully complete tasks and participate in project activity;
plan one’s own time to complete tasks; set priorities and relevant methods of activity; select useful study material from available sources;
positively cooperate and collaborate with school students, their parents and other stakeholders of educational process; responsibly develop school students’ competences; continuously develop in professional sphere.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Lectures, student-centered lectures, seminars, audio and video materials, interactive teaching, modeling of situations, discussions, dialogues on subject-specific topics, search for, collection and handling of subject-specific information, analysis and summarizing of materials, portfolio, pair and group work, collective generalization of ideas, self-dependent work, literature analysis, analysis of historical sources, text analysis, critical reading and listening, preparation and delivery of presentations, practical tasks, peer learning, written assignments, comparative essay, project work, practical training, colloquium, examination.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
The cumulative assessment is applied to assess students’ knowledge and abilities. Every study subject is completed with the examination (E) or assessment of self-dependent work (project) (SDW). The final score is drawn by summing up the constituent parts of the cumulative assessment (attendance, active participation, mid-term tests, self-dependent work, examination).
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
The scope of the theoretical study subjects in the field of pedagogical studies is 30 ECTS.
The scope of pedagogical practice is 30 ECTS.
The scope of the study subjects in the major field (history) is 90 ECTS.
The scope of study subjects in the minor study field (the English language) is 90 ECTS.
Distinctive features of a study programme:
The study programme is implemented in Lithuanian and a foreign (English) language. A possibility to acquire a double qualification degree is provided.
