OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY ENGINEERING (INŽENјERSTVO ZAŠTITE NA RADU) is an one-year Master programme (60ECTS) of academic studies offered by the Faculty of Occupational Safety in Niš.

The basic objective of the study programme is to enable students to apply scientific and specialist achievements in occupational safety engineering and to tackle safety issues in organisations. Programme targets imply students’ gaining knowledge and skills to:

  • analyse and assess professional risk,
  • analyse causes and effects and solve problems in occupational health and safety,
  • inspect and examine equipment for work with regards to safety,
  • test conditions of the working environment,
  • project and manage quality of the working environment,
  • develop and apply methodologies, tools, and procedures in occupational safety management,
  • perform monitoring in occupational safety systems,
  • strategically plan and develop occupational safety systems,
  • nurture innovation activities and team work,
  • support permanent education and development of a knowledge system for occupational safety.

On completion of the study programme, the student becomes professionally competent to:

  • assess professional risk,
  • manage available resources in occupational health and safety systems,
  • create reports on occupational health and safety conditions,
  • design plans and technical documentation for occupational safety,
  • devise normative acts for occupational safety,
  • perform occupational health and safety monitoring,
  • provide expertise for accidents, injuries, damage, and forensic investigation,
  • provide education and knowledge management for occupational safety,
  • provide training, conduct professional selection, and develop skills for safer work,
  • establish and develop an integrated system of management,
  • develop methodologies, methods, and procedures in occupational safety management,
  • organise and manage an occupational safety system,
  • develop methods which integrate safety performance for the purpose of management and productivity of the organisation,
  • apply information technology in occupational safety engineering,
  • develop engineering ethics, and
  • pursue doctoral studies in the same or related areas.
Access requirements: 

As a general requirement, for Master programmes lasting two years with 120 ECTS a candidate has to have obtained a Bachelor diploma with 180 ECTS points (or 240 ECTS for one-year programmes).
Specific admission prerequisites usually entail specific knowledge in certain disciplines and should be checked at the institution’s website for each individual programme a student is interested in.
