Objective(s) of a study programme:
To train and educate officers, high-quality specialists in national security and warfare with high-level knowledge on internal and external threats, capable of making as well as implementing reasonable decisions, specialists with inter-disciplinary knowledge and skills important for leading military units in peace, crises as well as war and serving the Lithuanian state.
Having completed the study programme National Security and Defence, the graduates will have:
Synergy of knowledge and practical skills. Capacity to combine theoretical knowledge and practical skills, excersizing duties of the platoon comander or/and comander of other units applying critical recognition of threats to national security, analysis and theory of military science as well as practical methods in different situations, regularly evaluating and improving personal professional knowledge and skills, and imparting them to comrades-in-arms as well as to subordinates.
Research activity. Capacity to conduct surveys and research of topical issues of public security applying methods of social sciences working with non-governmental organizations, soldiers and society and following norms of professional ethics.
Special competences. Capacities to operate in complex multicultural enviroment, to work in a team, to make decicions in complicated situations, rationally allocate and exploit resourses, cooperate with various organizations and social groups, be aware of prevention and defense weaponry and to purposefully employ them.
Social facilities. To be a leader who disseminates, democratic values and has the capacity to lead and impart his/her knowledge to both subordinates and citizenzs.
Personal abilities. Ability to comunicate in different foreign languages, permanent improvement of personal and professional competences, capacity to project career and regular application of innovations in the field of military service and job, nurturing of patriotic and civic values as well as ethic norms.
Activities of teaching and learning:
Interactive lectures, workshops, audio and video materials, interactive teaching, modelling of situations, discussions, dialogues on subject-specific topics, searching for, collection and handling of subject-specific information, analysis and summarizing of materials, portfolio, individual and group work, collective generalization of ideas, literature analysis, analysis of historical sources, text analysis, critical reading and listening, preparation and delivery of presentations, practical tasks, peer learning, written assignments, comparative essay, project work, practical training, preparation for the colloquium, examination.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Cumulative assessment is applied to assess students’ knowledge and abilities. Every study subject is completed with an examination (E) or assessment of the paper and/prctical task. The final score is drawn by summing up the constituent parts of the cumulative assessment (attendance, active participation, mid-term tests, self-study work, examination).
Study subjects (modules), practical training:
The scope of the general theoretical studies is 15 ECTS.
The scope of the study subjects in the major field (public security) is 170 ECTS.
The scope of study subjects of special fields is 55 ECTS.
Three optional courses (3 ECTS each) and one optional foreign language (3 ECTS)

Access to professional activity:
Since every graduate receives a Bachelor diploma in public security together with the rank of the second lieutenant, all graduates are appointed to serve as platoon leaders across all units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and /or designated to some divisions of the State Defense System except cadets with health problems. In this case, they can be appointed to civilian positions inside the National Defense System or employed in domestic security institutions.

Master of social sciences at the MAL or other universities in Lithuania and abroad.
