Qualification Information

Students will be able to:

(general competences) 

  • demonstrate originality and creativity in professional and academic work,

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate thorough knowledge of the theoretical bases of the field of museum education, reflect on them and apply them in practice,
  • demonstrate thorough understanding of the educational value of humanity's cultural and natural heritage and, in connection with this, the educational role of museums,
  • demonstrate thorough understanding, capacity for reflection and proficiency in various forms of educational work in museums and institutions with the characteristics of museums,
  • demonstrate thorough understanding, capacity for reflection and proficiency in methodological approaches to the evaluation, understanding and promotion of museum collections,
  • organise learning activities independently and as part of a team and create opportunities for learning in museums for different target groups,
  • establish partnerships with organisations, institutions and individuals for the purpose of education in the museum,
  • communicate with museum visitors, staff, partners and others, both individually and as a group,
  • demonstrate an orientation towards inclusive and sustainable development work in the field of museum education,
  • identify economic opportunities in cultural activities.

  • A completed first-cycle study programme in a relevant field (first indent of Article 38a of the ZVis) – Teacher training and education science (KLASIUS-P: 14), art (KLASIUS-P: 210 (art), 211 (history of art, painting, sculpture), 212 (music, dance, drama)), humanities (KLASIUS-P: 22) and social sciences (KLASIUS-P: 310 (social sciences), 311 (psychology), 312 (sociology and culture studies), 313 (political science, relations between the individual, society and the state)), consisting of at least 180 credits with no additional requirements; or
  • a completed first-cycle study programme in another field (second indent of Article 38a of the ZVis) consisting of at least 180 credits, if prior to enrolment the candidate completes course units essential for continuing studies; these are determined by the Postgraduate Studies Commission of the Faculty of Education with reference to how different the field is, and consist of 10 to 60 credits; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme adopted under legal provisions in force before 11 June 2004, in a relevant field defined under the first indent; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme in another field adopted under legal provisions in force before 11 June 2004, if prior to enrolment the candidate completes course units essential for continuing studies; these are determined by the Postgraduate Studies Commission of the Faculty of Education with reference to how different the field is, and consist of 10 to 60 credits.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

In order to complete their studies, candidates must complete all credits envisaged in all relevant parts of the study programme.

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
