Qualification Information

Students will be able to: 

(general competences)

  • analyse in depth, synthesise and envisage solutions and consequences,
  • demonstrate thorough mastery of research methods, procedures and processes,

  • resolve specific pedagogical issues applying scientific methods and procedures,

  • integrate new information and interpretations in the context of education,
  • thoroughly understand the general structure of education and the links between its sub-disciplines (curriculum theory, special pedagogical knowledge, etc.),
  • thoroughly understand and apply critical analysis methods and development theories, and apply them in solving specific pedagogical problems,
  • develop skills in applying knowledge in the area of education,
  • effectively use information and communication technologies and systems in the area of education,
  • demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of the developmental characteristics, differences and needs of students in the first two educational cycles of elementary school, recognise learning abilities and difficulties, and take a holistic view of the child,
  • organise and lead in the field of education,
  • demonstrate knowledge of social systems, particularly processes in education,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the institutional frameworks of work (requirements, legislation, documentation, legal aspects of education),
  • show aesthetic sensitivity and a capacity to work effectively and creatively in artistic fields,
  • demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of the didactic characteristics of lessons in the first two educational cycles of elementary school in the fields of Slovene, mathematics, science, technology, social science, sport, art, music, and cross-curricular integration,
  • provide assistance in the provision of pedagogical leadership for an individual, department and/or group,
  • adapt learning and educational approaches to individual, social, linguistic and cultural differences of students,
  • participate in expanded elementary school programmes (e.g. after-school activities, study circles, school networks, etc.),
  • create an encouraging learning atmosphere and positive mutual relations and effectively address disciplinary problems.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

  • A completed first-cycle study programme consisting of 240 ECTS credits in the field of general elementary education; or
  • a completed academic higher education programme adopted before 11 June 2004 in the field of general elementary education.

Students complete their studies when they have met all requirements prescribed by the study programme, written and successfully defended a master’s thesis and completed a total of 60 ECTS credits.

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
