  • demonstrate knowledge of the history of film, television and AV media in cultural, historical, social, economic and political contexts,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the historical development of film theory and mass media and mass culture theories,
  • demonstrate knowledge of sociology, psychology, social psychology and the economics of film, television and AV media,
  • interpret and analyse film and AV content and write reviews and other articles relating to them,
  • analyse the organisation and management of AV media and national and international AV spaces,
  • lead and manage AV institutions and projects,
  • integrate knowledge and publicity, educational and management functions in the field of film, television and AV media,
  • place new information and critical interpretations in the context of film, television and AV media,
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of and observe copyright and related rights and legal regulations covering the field of AV media,
  • undertake research in the field of film, television and AV media,
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of advanced and specific elective subjects,
  • demonstrate coherent mastery of elective subjects and integrate knowledge from these subjects and apply it practically, artistically and creatively in the field of film, television and AV media,
  • place new information and critical interpretations from specific elective subjects in the context of film, television and AV media.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

To complete their studies, students must complete all course units prescribed by the study programme.

  • Any completed first-cycle study programme; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme under the former programme, if prior to enrolment the candidate has completed course units essential for further studies, consisting of 10–60 credits.

All candidates must pass an aptitude test and submit a plan (outline) of the master's thesis when taking the test.
