Qualification Information

Students are capable of:

(general competences)

  • in-depth knowledge and comprehending highly-complex concepts and methods in the general field of expertise, 
  • implementing scientific research methods to deal with a wide spectrum of problems and determining the condition and the results, 
  • knowledge of technology and innovations in the field of study,
  • critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and anticipation of solutions and consequences,
  • application of research work, collection and interpretation of data, critical and self-critical evaluation,
  • application of knowledge in practice, problem solving,

(programme-specific competences)

  • mastering in-depth knowledge in selected areas of anatomy, physiology, dermatology, biophysics and chemistry, cosmetic science, cosmetic procedures for the requirements of in-depth understanding and professionally supported independent work and work in interdisciplinary teams,
  • deeper knowledge of functional anatomy and physiology, especially in skin, blood, nervous and lymph systems, as well as the musculoskeletal system, 
  • deeper knowledge of age-related impacts, sex, diet, stress and environmental effects on certain cosmetic ingredients, preparations and procedures,
  • mastering in-depth and specialist knowledge for identifying needs and planning, implementation and development of special cosmetic procedures and other cosmetic services in cosmetics,
  • evaluating the effects of procedures and products and documenting the results, 
  • innovation of procedures and cooperation in development and evaluation of new products and procedures in cosmetics, 
  • in-depth knowledge of natural and synthetic substances in cosmetics and modern state-of-the-art products and equipment in cosmetics,
  • correct and safe use of modern and specialist high-level methods, techniques, procedures and state-of-the-art products and equipment in cosmetics,
  • knowledge of nutrients, principles of healthy nutrition and their importance for the skin and body, i.e. comprehensive cosmetic treatment,
  • knowledge and application of relaxation techniques as part of the integrated approach to cosmetic care,
  • scientific research work in cosmetics for creating new knowledge and evaluating results,
  • aesthetic corrections with make-up and masking,
  • mastering knowledge in health and safety at work.

Students complete their studies after completing all the requirements of the study programme thus collecting 120 ECTS.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

  • Completed higher education or university programme in cosmetics, medicine, healthcare, physiotherapy, natural sciences, wellness, sports, etc., if the curriculum of the programme contains knowledge in dermatovenerology, anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, chemistry, cosmetic science, cosmetic care and basic massage techniques equivalent to the higher education study programme Cosmetic Science, or
  • if the candidate has completed differential exams in the missing courses from the previous study programme; the Committee for postgraduate studies determines the differential exams, taking into account the general and specific professional knowledge of the higher vocational study programme of Cosmetic science at the Higher School of Applied Sciences.

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, the candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
