Qualification Information

KNOWLEDGE
The MBA in Tourism, MBA in Hospitality provide integrated knowledge on issues of administration and management for businesses in the field of hospitality and tourism, such as hotels, catering companies, travel companies (airlines, etc.), travel agencies, events companies, and other companies offering tourism services.
The curriculum combines theoretical knowledge and business practice, allowing students to familiarise with the basic principles of management for the businesses in the hospitality and tourism industry, while also acquiring specialised knowledge, skills, and experience on these subjects. Specifically, students acquire knowledge about the markets, the procedures for developing and promoting tourism services, the customers and their needs - preferences, the organisation and management of operations and procedures in tourism businesses, the financial management of tourism businesses, the management of human resources, ICTs, and the IT systems in the field of tourism, about business strategy, along with modern issues, such as the operation in multicultural environments, the moral values, innovation and entrepreneurship, customer service, etc.
Following the successful completion of the programme, the graduates shall have and be able to use a wide range of cognitive / intellectual and technical competences, along with personal and interpersonal skills, which are necessary for a successful career in the field of tourism.

SKILLS
-- CRITICAL THINKING, ANALYSIS, AND SYNTHESIS: Students develop the skill of putting forward logical arguments and proposals, evaluate alternative actions based on evidence, make abstract thinking, and have the ability to generalise and specialise businesses and conditions, while being capable of analysing and synthesising data.
-- QUANTITATIVE SKILLS: Students can understand and analyse data, interpret situations, foresee trends or events, use scientific methods and tools for understanding and resolving business problems and situations, business problems and phenomena.
-- REFLECTION SKILL: Students can understand the role and the mission of the business in the local and wider society, as well as their roles as specialised executives in the achievement of the business and other objectives.
-- STRATEGIC THINKING: Students understand the procedures for setting the business strategy, for selecting strategic objectives, the organisation and the scheduling required for achieving them, and for monitoring their implementation course.
-- PROFESSIONALISM: Students understand the need of acting with consistency, professionalism, respect, honesty, and based on moral standards, focused on customer service.
-- MULTICULTURALISM: Students understand the need to operate in multicultural environments, understand, and respect the customs and morals of other cultures.

COMPETENCES: Within the context of the above, students develop and learn to use the following competences:
-- KNOWLEDGE APPLICATIONS: Students are capable of moving from the abstract / theory to the specific / practice and put the knowledge obtain into practice.
-- RESOLUTION OF PROBLEMS AND TAKING OF DECISIONS: Students develop the ability of specifying, formulating and resolving business problems, creating and evaluating alternative actions, and taking decisions as executives with regard to a wide range of issues and business situations.

(b) The provision of the necessary quality knowledge for the development of specialised scientists and administrative executives, capable of manning the productive and administrative operations of tourism and hospitality businesses.
(c) The preparation of specialised executives knowledgeable about the modern trends in the fields of hospitality and tourism, with the necessary theoretical and technical knowledge and competences, in order to effectively contribute to the operation and development of tourism and hospitality businesses, while being capable of developing innovative approaches for the exploitation of opportunities and the resolution of problems.

Access requirements: 

Access to this type of qualification have those who hold a Bachelor Degree (level 6). The selection of graduate students is mainly based on the following criteria: the overall grade of the Bachelor Degree, the grades in undergraduate courses that are relevant with the subjects of the Master’s program, the performance in thesis, where is foreseen at the undergraduate level and any research activity of the candidate. The detailed application of the above mentioned criteria, the definition of additional criteria or the conducting of examinations and interviews, the results of which are taken into account in the selection, are determined by decision of the relevant Department.
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 8.
