MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES (UPRAVLjANјE KOMUNALNIM SISTEMOM) is an one-year Master programme (60ECTS) of academic studies offered by the Faculty of Occupational Safety in Niš.

The basic objective of the study programme is to enable students to develop and apply scientific and specialist achievements in communal system management. The programme provides necessary knowledge and skills which contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of management, environmental protection, and safety in communal systems. Programme targets imply students’ gaining knowledge and skills to:

  • become capable of realising scientific and technical research in management, environmental protection, and safety in communal systems,
  • analyse, evaluate, and propose sustainable solutions for problems in management, environmental protection, and safety in communal systems,
  • contribute to planning policies and strategies in management, environmental protection, and safety in communal systems,
  • apply professional techniques and procedures in communal system management planning,
  • contribute to developing plans to implement environmental and safety policies in communal systems,
  • identify, assess, and verify technical aspects and environmental aspects of operations in communal system processes,
  • understand the application of relevant technical standards, instructions, legislation, rules, and regulations in communal system practice,
  • understand and implement integration of different management systems,
  • manage stages of communal system verification and development.

On completion of the study programme, the student becomes skilled and competent to:

  • use scientific data and scientific research results as a basis for the development of communal system management,
  • contribute significantly to the implementation of environmental and safety policy, of efficiency and effectiveness of communal system management, and of sustainable development of urban environments,
  • develop and apply professional techniques and procedures in planning management, environmental protection, and safety in communal systems,
  • contribute to developing plans to implement environmental and safety policies in communal systems,
  • identify and assess technical aspects and environmental aspects of operations in communal system processes,
  • develop and apply knowledge about standards, instructions, legislation, rules, and regulations in communal system practice,
  • stay up to date with and analyse standards for management systems dedicated to quality, environment, and safety in communal systems, as well as to develop integration of different management systems,
  • manage stages of communal system verification and development,
  • plan, develop, and implement a system of education, training, and knowledge management in communal systems,
  • organise and handle insurance affairs in communal systems,
  • manage projects and innovations in communal systems.
Access requirements: 

As a general requirement, for Master programmes lasting two years with 120 ECTS a candidate has to have obtained a Bachelor diploma with 180 ECTS points (or 240 ECTS for one-year programmes).
Specific admission prerequisites usually entail specific knowledge in certain disciplines and should be checked at the institution’s website for each individual programme a student is interested in.
