Inclusive Special Education, M.Ed.

Qualification Information

On completion of study the following criteria shall be fulfilled:
Knowledge

- Have knowledge of the main theories, research methods, concepts, and codes of ethics related to the fields of multicultural studies, special education, and diversified schooling, as well as an understanding of the research policies that shape research in these fields

- Have deepened their knowledge of theories about education, inclusion, and exclusion, and respect for individuals and human diversity

- Have a solid understanding of important concepts in the study of ethics (such as autonomy, human dignity, trust, care, human rights, justice, and exclusion) and how they have been defined and understood in western ethics, and how they are applied in real circumstances

- Are familiar with the main theories of sociology and the philosophy of education, including theories about social inequality, democracy, and social justice

- Are familiar with the most recent theories and research outcomes in the fields of special education and the diverse community, including the fields of multiculturalism and disability studies, and be able to use them in work and in theoretical discourse

- Are able to use theories, concepts, research methods, and critical thinking to reason and substantiate solutions in a professional manner, and to tackle important topics in contemporary education debate

- Be familiar with national and global commitments related to schooling, such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Salamanca Statement, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and so on

- Bolster an understanding of oneself as a person and professional, who is constantly learning and assessing his or her own perspective, knowledge, and understanding

Skills

- Have adopted work methods which are accepted in the broad field of working with diverse groups of children, young people, and adults

- Are able use theoretical knowledge and research outcomes when organising teaching and learning for students with diverse and multifaceted needs, regardless of their situation

- Have the knowledge and skills to show creativity in the development of ideas in work and in the field of diverse schooling

- Are able to take independent decisions in their work and are able to reason and substantiate them on the basis of theories relating to teaching and learning in the field of diverse schooling, and in accordance with the relationship of education to culture and societies

- Can listen to the voices of students and teachers and use his or her knowledge to meet their wishes, needs, and perspectives, and bring together differing opinions in a professional manner

- Can use accepted methods to gather information relating to education and schooling in diverse schools and society, and are able to process this information, assess and interpret in a disciplined and accepted manner

- Can use their knowledge and understanding in new situations and in previously unfamiliar challenges in their work

- Can take an active part in professional discourse relating to different concepts, definitions, and theories used in the discussion of education and schooling in contemporary society

- Can present and support opinions on professional issues by integrating knowledge in the field

- Can use their knowledge to coordinate the cooperation of varying professional entities (such as teachers and preschool teachers, developmental therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, doctors) and the families of all students

- Can initiate research and development projects in the field of education with a view to school policy and the ideas of diverse schooling, and can organise and manage them

Competence

- Can present projects in their specialised field coherently to a large group

- Have adopted necessary skills to use techniques and software which is useful for the mediation of knowledge in the field

- Can initiate projects and manage the work of individuals and groups

- Can communicate complex theoretical subjects and research outcomes clearly using a variety of methods

- Have adopted the necessary learning skills to undertake further study in the fields special education and multiculturalism where independent work methods and critical thinking are required.
