1.1. The student has exact knowledge and a clear understanding of at least one period of history.
1.2. The student has a broad perception of diverse views, methods and ideas that drive research in the period or periods that his research covers.
1.3. A master's student has obtained an understanding in an organized manner of the latest knowledge of his chosen field within history.
1.4. The student can use his knowledge and understanding in his research and can take a reasoned stance on historical problems.
2. Type of knowledge:
2.1. The master's student is familiar with important matters and problems that are debated in his chosen field in history in the international arena.
2.2. The student has gained his knowledge in his chosen field within history both with participation in specialised courses, symposia or seminars and his own research.
3. Practical competence
3.1. The master's student can gather, analyse and evaluate scientific data.
3.2. The student can write academic article for publication in journals.
3.3. The student has developed the ability to work independently and is prepared to write books on historical issues, on his own or with others.
3.4. The master's student understands and can deal with complex matters in an academic context.
4. Theoretical skills
4.1. The master's student can independently evaluate when varying methods of analysis and complex academic issues are appropriate.
4.2. The master's student can demonstrate increased and deepened understanding and broader perception of his chosen field than is implied by studies at lower levels.
4.3. The student can place the matter he has in hand in a wider context, make an independent evaluation of a issue debated in his chosen field and compare his conclusions with those of other academics.
4.4. The student shows in his master's thesis that he can perform large-scale and quality research in an independent manner on matters that are important for progress in academic discourse.
5. Communication competence, information technology and computer literacy
5.1. The master's student can initiate projects in his chosen field, administer them and be responsible for the work of individuals or groups.
5.2. The student can take part in academic debate on historical issues while respecting and understanding the views of others.
5.3. The student can present academically argued conclusions on issues within his chosen field of history, alone or in cooperation with others and equally to an audience of specialists and to the public.
5.4. The student appreciates the main opportunities for communicating historical material in today's society.
5.5. A student can use software that can be used in historical research, especially in his chosen field.
6. Academic competence
6.1. The student knows the main ways to maintain his knowledge and skills and is able to gather new knowledge in his academic field.
6.2. The master's student has reached the necessary level of working independently to be able to begin studies at a doctoral level in his academic field.
