The Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP) was created in 1985 in order to offer excellence in qualified education.

IPP is the largest Portuguese Polytechnic Institution, with the most students, teachers, courses and schools. The outcome is a highly diversified offer of training profiles, contexts, targets, extension activities and geographic implementation – in six Municipalities of the Porto District.

IPP is the polytechnic with highest number of recognized research units in Portugal. Our students, professors, and researchers have received important prizes in Science, Arts, Culture, and Sports.

One of the top schools of technology in Portugal, School of Engineering (ISEP) has been pioneering education and research in Engineering since 1852.

Our goal is to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development, by creating and transmitting applied knowledge.

Access requirements: 

Have successfully completed secondary school or have an equivalent qualification

Have completed one of the following university entrance exams (central exams prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science): Biology and Geology, and Mathematics; or Physics and Chemistry, and Mathematics

Admission Procedure: 

Applications are done through the national admission contest (concurso nacional de acesso) organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education (DGES), or through special higher education contests.

Grants: 

There are some institutions in Portugal that give scholarships to international students and it is advisable that applicants confirm every year whether these grants are available and the eligibility terms: Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation; Foundation for the Sciences and Technology; Fulbright Commission; Instituto Camões; Luso-American Development Foundation; Fundação Oriente.

The Polytechnic of Porto provides assistance to international students in finding accommodation. Students may be lodged in Halls of Residence depending on yearly availability.

There are other forms of accommodation options available throughout the city, at very affordable prices. Students may opt to choose a room in a family home or rent an apartment with other students.

Schools International Offices are also involved in the accommodation process and help students finding private accommodation in the vicinity of the Schools.
