The National Qualifications Registry of Greece is a special software application (Database) that will include the qualifications classified in the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and referenced to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
Knowledge: Doctors have (a) increased specialized knowledge over a specific cognitive domain in relation to PPS "Lifelong Learning and Special Education" and of other relevant interdisciplinary subjects, (b) specialized knowledge over the current scientific, educational, and research developments, and (c) increased critical perception of the various subjects of the cognitive domain of Lifelong Learning and Special Education.
Skills: The doctors are capable of (a) applying with ease the theories and methodological approaches of the specialized subject of their doctorate, with a critical and creative way, to their own research, study, and work, (b) applying to the educational and research practice the specialized knowledge obtained through their doctorate, (c) evaluating, interpreting and promoting modern scientific research and studies, which are relevant to the scientific field of their doctorate, and (d) documenting their positions using scientific criteria, with clarity, sufficiency, and accuracy.
Competences: The doctors are capable of (a) applying with professionalism the specialized knowledge and competence obtained through their doctorate, (b) dealing effectively with new, interdisciplinary issues, (c) contributing significantly to the development of knowledge and practices in the educational, vocational, and business field, and (d) undertaking autonomously the responsibility for the education / further learning / teaching in the field of Lifelong Learning and Special Education.
DOCTORATE (DIDAKTORIKO DIPLOMA)
Candidate doctors, who successfully complete the writing and defence of their doctoral dissertation, as provided by the relevant legislation and the regulation of the Department's Postgraduate Studies Programme, are awarded with the academic title of Doctor of the Department.
The proclamation and admission of the Doctor are performed before the General Assembly of Special Composition of the Department, through a special ceremony, attended by the Dean of the University of Macedonia.
The doctoral dissertation must be an original research work, leading to noteworthy research conclusions, containing elements that advance the science and falling into one of the two cognitive domains, as such are found in the two directions of the Department.
The candidate doctors are obliged to present the progress of their work and participate in the scientific meetings and Colloquia held by the Department for candidate doctors, with the participation of Department Professors and other scientists.
The candidate doctors are obliged to participate in the operations of the Department and in the research programmes of the supervisor - professor at least twelve (12) hours per week, allocated in at least three (3) days.
Each direction of studies provides for specific cycles of courses, seminars, laboratories, one-day conferences, etc., which must be attended by candidate doctors, as per Ministerial Decision Β7/122/3-7-2001, article 6, paragraph 2, Government Gazette 945, bulletin Β/24-7-2001. These include the necessary courses on methodology for the conduct of qualitative and quantitative research, literature search, etc., while discussing thorough issues about the design and conduct of the research for doctorate dissertations.
The candidate defends his/her dissertation in public, before the examination committee, which then examines its originality and whether it is a contribution to science. For the approval of the doctorate dissertation, the agreeing opinion by at least five (5) members of the examination committee is required.
In order to approve the support of the doctorate dissertation, the candidate doctors must meet at least two (2) additional conditions:
a) Present the progress of their work once prior its public defence to special scientific meetings (Colloquia), which are held by the Department for the candidate Doctors with the participation of Professors, postgraduate students of the Department, and other scientists.
b) Several publications and announcements, as follows:
i) At least one (1) publication in a reputable and catalogued international journal.
ii) At least two (2) publications in international conferences, which shall be verified by the programme, in the abstracts or the Minutes of the conferences.
iii) At least one publication in a Greek journal with reviewers or in a Greek conference, which shall be verified by the programme and the Minutes of the conference.
University of Macedonia
The doctorate title in Lifelong Learning comprises an additional formal qualification for its holders - provide they hold the basic titles of studies (degree) provided by the law - in order to work in the public and private sector as specialists on:
- administration of organisations and structures for adult education;
- study, design, application, and evaluation of adult education and training programmes;
- education of adult educators about the subjects of adult education and learning and of lifelong learning;
- management and development of human resources in organisations and businesses;
- professional orientation and professional - social integration of vulnerable social groups.
The doctorate title in Special Education comprises an additional formal qualification for its holders - provide they hold the basic titles of studies (degree) provided by the law - in order to work in public and private bodies of special training and rehabilitation and in School Units for Special Training and Education. The specialisation of "Special Education" covers the entire field of education for individuals with special educational needs and aims to provide specialized education and training for researchers and executives specialized on the prognosis, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of these needs, as well as on teaching, rehabilitation, and on the educational, social, and professional integration of individuals with disabilities.

Access to this type is possible only for those who have obtained at least a level 7 qualification (unless it is provided for otherwise).
Holders of such type qualifications have access to programs of study of the same level.
Qualifications of this type are acquired via formal education.
