Qualification Information

Students will be able to:

(general competences)

  • demonstrate thorough understanding of theoretical concepts of leadership in the field of education: pedagogical, organisational, sociological, psychological, ergonomic, legal and economic,
  • demonstrate sound understanding and mastery of various scientific research methods, procedures and processes,
  • analyse, synthesise and envisage solutions and consequences,
  • autonomously set up, create and implement a comprehensive research process,
  • independently develop new knowledge, skills, techniques, practices and materials through research work,
  • resolve the most demanding problems by testing and improving known solutions and by developing new solutions,
  • respond to abstract problems that extend and redefine existing procedural knowledge and practices,
  • make a contribution through original research that extends the frontiers of knowledge and is important at the national and international levels,
  • participate in critical dialogue; manage and promote complex social processes within the profession,
  • manage the most complex systems and scientific research projects from a broad professional and scientific field,
  • publicly present and defend scientific studies,
  • promote, within academic and professional contexts, social or cultural advancement in a knowledge-based society,
  • use information and communication technologies in the research of leadership in the field of education,
  • demonstrate knowledge of research ethics and act in accordance with them,

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of leadership concepts in the field of education at various levels,
  • demonstrate thorough understanding of various curricular leadership solutions in the field of education,
  • demonstrate thorough understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods and apply them appropriately in the research of leadership in the field of education,
  • identify and resolve specific issues relating to leadership in the field of education by applying scientific methods and procedures,
  • demonstrate cooperative learning and creative communication skills in the field of research, resolve problems and participate in interdisciplinary research teams in the area of leadership in the field of education,
  • integrate knowledge from various areas and apply it in practice,
  • integrate new information and interpretations in the context of leadership in the field of education,
  • develop organisational, management and leadership skills in the field of education,
  • analyse in detail and reflect on social norms and relationships within education environments, manage activities with the aim of making changes thereto, and act as intermediary between the academic research and social environment,
  • demonstrate sound knowledge of education policy, and legal, economic and ergonomic aspects for leadership in the field of education,
  • provide assistance in the provision of pedagogical leadership for an individual, department and/or group,
  • develop skills to apply knowledge regarding leadership in the field of education.

Students complete their studies when they have successfully met all prescribed requirements of a study programme, written and successfully defended their doctoral dissertation, and completed a total of at least 180 ECTS credits.

  • A completed second-cycle study programme; or
  • a completed study programme to obtain an academic higher education under study programmes adopted before 11 June 2004; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme, adopted before 11 June 2004, and a study programme to obtain a specialised qualification; candidates must complete 32 ECTS credits prior to enrolment; or
  • a completed study programme leading to professions regulated by European Union directives, or another integrated master’s programme leading to other professions in Slovenia consisting of 300 ECTS credits and lasting five years.

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
