Qualification Information

Students will be able to:

(general competences)

  • acquire specialised knowledge on the basis of the study of existing theoretical models,
  • functionally apply scientific methods,
  • functionally apply the specific working methods of the historian in practice,
  • think creatively and critically and integrate facts and rules into new combinations of knowledge,
  • transfer theoretical knowledge into practice,
  • communicate within the discipline and across disciplines,
  • work individually and as part of a team,
  • apply research methods in the preparation of research,
  • demonstrate autonomy in research and use critical judgement when making decisions,
  • independently apply acquired theoretical knowledge to solve problems in practice,
  • develop communication skills, in particular constant communication in the international environment,
  • analyse comparative sources,
  • work in project groups and show cooperativeness,
  • apply knowledge in practice,

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of history as a discipline,
  • demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in research methodology in historiography,
  • demonstrate knowledge of the position of historiography within history as a discipline,
  • develop communication skills for successful public speaking/presentations,
  • demonstrate knowledge of modern theoretical and methodological research approaches in historiography and their application,
  • compare Slovene historiography to world historiography,
  • plan, conduct, evaluate and present own research using modern audio-visual equipment,
  • respond to current cultural-historical challenges of the modern age.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

  • A completed second-cycle (Bologna) study programme; or
  • a completed four-year undergraduate programme under pre-Bologna programmes, adopted before 11 June 2004; or
  • a completed professional higher education programme adopted before 11 June 2004 and a specialisation programme; course units totalling 30 credits will be specified for such candidates prior to enrolment; or
  • a completed study programme leading to professions regulated by EU directives, or another integrated master's degree programme consisting of 300 credits.

In order to complete the programme, students must complete all course units envisaged by the study programme, for a total of 180 credits (pass all examinations prescribed by the study programme, and prepare and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation).
