Qualification Information

Students will be able to:

(general competences)

  • perform integral and critical thinking, analysis and synthesis and envisage solutions in the fields of economic, business, administrative, organisational and other sciences (interdisciplinary aspect),
  • demonstrate familiarity with and apply research methodology (methods, procedures, processes and technology),
  • creatively apply knowledge in the business environment,
  • demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of processes in the business environment, analyse and synthesise them and envisage solutions,
  • recognise the need for changes and introduce innovations in the business environment,
  • demonstrate autonomy and responsibility in decision-making,
  • demonstrate a commitment to professional ethics,
  • develop a culture of non-discrimination and respect of intercultural differences,
  • present acquired knowledge and research findings at domestic and foreign scientific conferences and in an international research environment,
  • be conscious of the need for their own development, enhancement, expansion and upgrading of knowledge,

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate fundamental familiarity with and understanding of the history of the development of economics and business sciences,
  • solve business problems through the application of scientific methods and procedures,
  • demonstrate advanced knowledge of economic or business sciences and link and apply this knowledge in an interdisciplinary manner,
  • perform strategic management, administration and development of the most complex work systems in line with modern organisational and economic principles,
  • evaluate the quality of work and achievements,
  • recognise the influence of technological development on environmental protection,
  • demonstrate fundamental familiarity with and apply the latest quantitative and qualitative research methods in business economics,
  • perform independent planning and implementation of research work, analyse and interpret data, formulate and support opinions, views and proposals and draw up a research report,
  • cooperate actively at scientific conferences, research workshops and doctoral and scientific seminars in the field of economics and business,
  • demonstrate fundamental familiarity with standards and criteria for writing professional and scientific papers, articles, research reports, monographs etc.,
  • act in line with the values and value systems and the principles of professional ethics,
  • independently plan their own professional career and employee careers in the business environment.

In order to complete their studies, students must successfully complete all programme requirements consisting of 180 credits.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

  • A completed second-cycle study programme (Bologna master's programme); or
  • a master of science degree or a completed specialisation after an Academic Bachelor Degree qualification (60 credits recognised on enrolment); or
  • a completed Academic Bachelor Degree programme; or
  • a completed Professional Bachelor Degree programme and completed specialisation (on enrolment course units in the amount of 30–60 credits are determined by the doctoral studies committee).

In order to enrol in a third-cycle study programme after completing a study programme in an unrelated field, candidates must pass differential examinations in the amount of 60 credits as determined by the doctoral studies committee.
