Course Information

The Doctoral Programme in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering offers a multi-disciplinary environment, producing specialists with a broad understanding of both technology and biosciences. The major of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering comprises the following research fields:

  • biomaterials
  • biomeasurements, biosensors and biorobotics
  • biomedical imageing
  • personal health technologies
  • experimental and computational biosciences
  • cell technology and tissue engineering.

The programme encourages internationality and enables graduates to pursue academic as well as industrial careers.

The doctoral programme offers the possibility to complete the postgraduate degrees of Licentiate of Science in Technology (Lic.Sc. Tech.), Doctor of Science in Technology (D.Sc. Tech.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

The objectives of the doctoral programme is that students:

  • become well-versed in their field of research and its societal significance
  • gain the knowledge and skills required to apply scientific research methods independently and critically and produce new scientific knowledge
  • become conversant with the developments, basic problems and research methods of their field of research
  • gain such knowledge of the general theory of science and other disciplines related to their field of research that enables the students to follow developments in the field
  • attain sufficient communication and language skills and other skills required in extensive, demanding specialist and development tasks and in international co-operations
