Qualification Information

Learning outcomes are formulated in accordance with the relevant occupational standard and the strategic objectives of educational programmes outlined in the state standard of first level professional higher education. Competences:

1. Basic understanding of the following in order to be able to perform professional tasks:
1.1. European Union Charter of Fundamental Rights and the European Social Charter;
1.2. socio-economic processes in Latvia;
1.3. basic principles of national social policy-making and implementation;
1.4. public administration principles;
1.5. causes of social isolation, consequences and possible solutions in the society;
1.6. social statistics and demography;
1.7. general human rights.
2. Advanced understanding of the following in order to be able to perform professional tasks:
2.1. social security laws and regulations in the Republic of Latvia;
2.2. functioning of social institutions;
2.3. history of social rehabilitation in Latvia and the world;
2.4. application of the latest technologies in social rehabilitation;
2.5. impact of different (social, economic, environmental, etc.) factors on individuals;
2.6. basic principles of social work;
2.7. basic principles of social assistance;
2.8. basic principles of medical rehabilitation;
2.9. basic principles of social care;
2.10. basic principles of health care;
2.11. basic principles of professional rehabilitation;

1. To assist and support the client in solving social problems by providing customer participation and respecting social justice.
2. To assess client's living conditions.
3. To establish a favorable psycho-emotional contact with the client; earn client’s confidence.
4. To define client’s role and duties in the rehabilitation process.
5. To identify symptoms of client’s addictions (e.g., drugs, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and computer games).
6. To determine the need for easy-to-read materials.
7. To organize the client's free time.
8. To participate in organization of client's employment activities.
9. To help the client to maintain an active lifestyle.
10. To create interest and training groups.
11. To encourage client self-sufficiency and ability to defend his/her rights.
12. To be able to communicate with different target groups during the social rehabilitation process, complying with professional and general ethical principles.
13. To apply theoretical knowledge in practice.
14. To cooperate and work in a team with other professionals.
15. To evaluate the quality of the service provided.
16. To use information technologies as appropriate to his/her professional activities.
17. To obtain and analyze information necessary to resolve client’s social problems.
18. To collect professional data.
19. To handle risk/critical situations.
20. To plan professional activities and rational and efficient use of financial resources.
21. To prepare and submit reviews and reports.
22. To retain confidentiality.
23. To draw up proposals for new social rehabilitation services.
24. To possess knowledge and apply the laws on social rehabilitation, social assistance, child protection and other related areas.
25. To be able to communicate fluently in the official language.
26. To be able to communicate in two foreign languages.
27. To teach the client the skills necessary to orient himself/herself in social surroundings.
28. To involve the client in leisure, educational, cultural and health-enhancing and other activities.
29. To encourage the client to practice his/her existing social customs and traditions more actively and invent new ones.
30. To document his/her professional activities.
31. To provide first aid.
32. To use professional terminology in the official language and at least two foreign languages.
33. To comply with occupational health and safety, fire safety and environmental protection regulations.
34. To comply with employment laws and regulations.
