The Undergraduate Degree Course in Communication Sciences offers a flexible and experimentalist structure, allowing students to construct their own curriculum in one of the three areas of specialization: 

  • Information and Journalism: Press, Radio, Television, Online;
  • Advertising and Public Relations: Advertising / Creative Direction, Media Planning, Public Relations / Corporate Communication, Media Relations, Image Management;
  • Audiovisual and Multimedia:Direction, Production, Scriptwriting, Game Design, Multimedia Production.

This program provides the technical and scientific capacity to access the programs of the second cycle (Master) and the third cycle (PhD).

UMinho is a central actor in the region, an important reference for the country and a recognized partner at a European and global level. Located in the north of Portugal, the University has a campus in the city of Braga and another in the city of Guimarães. The University's organizational structure is flexible and conducive to innovation and interdisciplinary, favoring the exploration of emerging research areas.

Internationalization is a strong commitment and international activities are quite intense, not only within the EU and Portuguese Official Language African Countries (PALOP), but also with several other countries on different continents. The 2010/2011 academic year is marked by the beginning of a broader educational provision based on distance and post-working hour learning programmes. This offer will have a great social impact and it will open the University to a new public, in the context of demand and quality which has always been the hallmark of this institution.

The Institute of Social Sciences (ICS) is one of the founding schools of the University of Minho (1976). Research in Social Sciences is mainly developed mainly in connection with the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS), the Social Sciences Research Centre (CICS) and the Transdisciplinary Research Centre «Culture, Space and Memory» (CITCEM).

Have successfully completed secondary school or have an equivalent qualification 

Have completed one of the following university entrance exams (central exams prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science): Geography; or Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences; or Portuguese Language

Admission Procedure: 

Applications are done through the national admission contest (concurso nacional de acesso) organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education (DGES), or through special higher education contests. For more informations please check DGES website (in portuguese).
