Qualification Information

Students will be able to:
(general competences)

  • demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of social processes, analyse and synthesise them, and envisage solutions and their consequences,
  • demonstrate mastery of research methods, procedures and processes in the field of social sciences,
  • develop critical and self-critical assessment,
  • apply knowledge flexibly in practice,
  • show awareness of the importance of quality and ensure the quality of professional work through autonomy, (self-)criticism, (self-)reflection and (self-)evaluation in professional work,
  • show sensitivity towards people and the social environment and develop communication abilities and skills, particularly in the international environment,
  • demonstrate a capacity for ethical reflection and a commitment to professional ethics in the social environment, while observing the principles of non-discrimination and multiculturalism,
  • establish and maintain cooperative relations for work in a group and with other users and groups (local community, organisations of the public administration, business enterprise sector, NGOs), and pursue tolerant dialogue,

  • plan the organisational and information-related changes that are necessary for the introduction and high-quality application of information and communication technology in an organisation,
  • independently and autonomously use, supervise and maintain ICT in an organisation,

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the foundations and history of the development of the fundamental social science disciplines, i.e. sociology, political science, communication studies, economics and management, social informatics, law, social science statistics and qualitative methods,
  • solve specific social and work problems through the application of scientific methods and procedures,
  • coherently integrate basic knowledge acquired in compulsory subjects and apply it in practice,
  • acquire, select, evaluate and classify new information and interpret it in the context of the social sciences,
  • demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach, which is manifested as an understanding of the general structure of social sciences and the links between individual disciplines and sub-disciplines,
  • understand and apply methods of critical analysis and the development of theories, and apply them in solving specific social and work problems,
  • develop skills in the application of knowledge in the field of the social sciences by addressing theoretical or empirical problems,
  • use information and communication technologies and systems in the field of the social sciences,
  • demonstrate organisational and leadership skills in organisations while showing understanding of individual values and collective value systems and proficiency in dealing with questions of professional ethics,
  • demonstrate organisational and leadership skills for the organisation of active and autonomous work,
  • communicate with experts from various fields of economic and public life and with different interest groups,
  • demonstrate understanding of relations between individuals, organisations and the social environment and the capacity to take a complex systemic view and act accordingly,
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the theoretical basics of analytical and advisory work (transfer of knowledge to user),
  • plan and manage changes while formulating a comprehensive assessment of the situation in an organisation or social environment, taking into account various factors.

Students' knowledge is assessed by means of practical exercises and seminar papers, and also via products, projects, performances, services, etc. and by examinations. Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).
