The National Qualifications Registry of Greece is a special software application (Database) that will include the qualifications classified in the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and referenced to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
The aim for the graduates is to understand the properties of objects of historical and artistic importance in order to prevent their deterioration, enhance their ability to discern what is genuine and what is fake, and facilitate the approach for all users to objects and monuments of cultural heritage. Graduates of the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art from the Technical Educational Institute of Athens work in museums, public agencies, private conservation companies or independently, with the purpose of protecting cultural heritage. In particular, their responsibilities are: The Technical Examination, Conservation and Restoration of Archaeological Findings and Works of Art. The Elaboration of Conservation and Restoration Studies for Archaeological Findings and Works of Art. The preparation of studies or reports on the organization and operation of maintenance workshops. Development of new maintenance technologies, in collaboration with other disciplines and institutions. Participation and conduct of research projects independently or as members of research groups on subjects of their expertise. The preserver has full responsibility for any intervention on the objects of his/her expertise, but does not create new cultural or artistic objects. The Code of Ethics for the Profession of Conservator of Antiquities and Works of Art defines these activities.
BACHELOR DEGREE (PTYCHIO/DIPLOMA ANOTATIS EKPAIDEFSIS)
The purpose of the current curriculum is to provide theoretical and practical education on the cognitive fields related to the documentation, preservation, and protection of archaeological findings and works of art, so that its graduates are capable of directly and effectively applying the scientific, technological and artistic knowledge and skills when conducting their professional duties. According to the current view, the preservation of antiquities and works of art, in order to contribute not only to the preservation but also to a deeper understanding of the historical and artistic events that relate to the items preserved, requires the following: Knowledge and ability to analyse the various separate values of an item (historical, artistic value, etc.). Study of the materials and manufacture techniques. Study of the pathology of the item in question and discovery of the wear mechanisms. Analysis of the environmental conditions to detect the causes leading to the degrading of the materials. Preparation of a preservation study, which shall analytically include, with regard to the methods and materials, the intervention proposals along with suggesting specific measures for improving the environmental conditions. Ability to safely execute the proposals of a preservation study. Ability to intervene to the management method of a monument and its inclusion in a programme for its sustainable exploitation.

Access to this type of qualification have those who have completed at least the secondary education (level 4).
Holders of such qualifications gain access to study programmes at the same level or at level 7 or 8.
