Qualification Information

Knowledge:
Upon completion of the study programme students will have gained general and specialised knowledge and understanding about facts, theory, regularity and technical knowledge corresponding to the profession of a fitness trainer that will enable:
- to define concepts related to the health of people, healthy lifestyle and health sports, as well as to name the main factors that influence the health of people;
- to characterise the morphological, anatomically physiological and functional peculiarities of various age groups (children, teenagers, youth, elderly people) and to describe methods for determining and evaluating physical development of a human;
- to substantiate the importance of physical exercises in strengthening health and disease prevention and to characterise the specific features of physical activities for people of various age groups (children, teenagers, youth and seniors);
- to characterise the essence of first aid methods and to describe the application possibilities thereof in various emergency situations;
- to substantiate the selection of didactic methods in various sports classes and to characterise peculiarities of the sports pedagogy, regularities in teaching movements and types of classes applicable in health sports;
- to name most frequent disease risk factors, possibilities for the reduction of the possible risk factors, preferable physical activities in disease prevention;
- to substantiate the principles of load planning depending on functional abilities and health problems;
- to understand professional ethics, communication psychology, and to characterise principles of proper nutrition and to describe the importance of balanced nutrition in the functioning of a human body.

Skills and abilities:
Upon successful completion of the programme the students will be able to:
- to evaluate the physical development of a human, functional capacities of a human body, work abilities and the level of physical preparedness and therefore accordingly create and lead health sports training programmes by demonstrating knowledge and skills in sports pedagogy and training methods, as well as to introduce various training theories in practice;
- to evaluate the length of muscles of the clients, to use muscle stretching methods, to determine muscle imbalance and to characterise principles for the reduction of imbalance, to evaluate the pose and movement of clients, and to advise on exercises for the improvement of pose and movement;
- to communicate with the clients of fitness clubs, colleagues and management by logically formulating and substantiating one's opinion and understanding the interests and goals of the clients;
- to plan the training process, to create health sports programmes, to organise and conduct them for people of various age groups with an aim to strengthen their physical health;
- to use scientific databases, to compile and analyse information, to conduct a scientific research, to use contemporary information technologies;

- to take responsibility and initiative upon performing work individually, in a team or being in charge of the work of other people;
- to manage one's further education process by using specialised information sources, to improve one's competence, which is required for efficient professional activity and improvement of personality;
- to characterise principles of proper nutrition and to describe the importance of balanced nutrition in the functioning of a human body.

Competence:
Upon successful completion of the programme the students will be able to:
- to elaborate an action plan and tactics for actions in respect of clients of fitness clubs with health problems;
- to coordinate it with family physicians, sports doctors and physiotherapists in case of necessity;
- to formulate, to describe and to analyse practical problems in the profession of a fitness trainer, to select the required information;
- to set forth action priorities and structure tasks so that by using the available resources the fulfilment thereof would improve the physical preparedness and health condition of fitness club clients within the shortest possible period of time, providing practical and measurable results;
- to promote healthy sports and health sports, as well as the development of health industry, enhance strengthening of health and disease prevention in the society.
