Learning Opportunity: Admission to International Master's Degree, Arctic Art and Design, Master of Arts ( Art and Design)

Admission to International Master's Degree, Arctic Art and Design, Master of Arts ( Art and Design)

Course Information

Students can specialize in Applied Visual Arts or Service Design.

The Arctic Art and Design master’s programme focuses on the intersection of art and design, using the strengths of both disciplines. The degree is characterized by a human-centred approach to problem solving. Students are required to investigate and apply methods including user-centred techniques of co-design to the participatory approach used in socially-engaged visual arts. The programme includes live, active projects that address issues related to the Arctic and the circumpolar north. The project studies create a challenging environment for students in which to develop creative and innovative solutions.

In essence, the overarching idea in Arctic Art and Design is to develop students’ professional identity by building expertise and a professional portfolio throughout the studies. In addition, a sense for entrepreneurship is fostered by learning to identify possibilities from small-scale creative solutions to larger service design-based company consultations or socially-engaged art projects.

Research skills are developed through seminars and methodological courses.  Students are required to complete a master’s thesis, offering the possibility of continuation to doctoral studies.
