The Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra was created in 1979 when polytechnic education was introduced in Portugal.
We are a public institute of higher education, which is composed of six schools (Coimbra College of Agriculture, Coimbra College of Education, Oliveira do Hospital College of Technology and Management, Coimbra College of Health Technology, Coimbra Institute of Accounting and Administration and Coimbra Institute of Engineering), Social Welfare Services (SAS) and the Central Administration (SC).
As one may deduce from the names of our schools, the Institute has to offer a large variety of studies, which also include cross-border education in partnership with other European institutions of higher education, for both bachelor’s and master degree levels.
Deriving from the former Coimbra Institute of Commerce and Industry, which later became the Institute of Commerce, the Coimbra Institute of Accounting and Administration (ISCAC) was founded in 1976 and it joined the IPC in March 1988.
Specialised in the fields of accountancy, audit and management, it is ever more a school-business that focuses on the importance of practical teaching and is adapted to the increasingly competitive labour market.
