Qualification Information

Students will be able to:

  • critically evaluate music at a basic level, 
  • critically observe the social role of music,
  • put into words and communicate simple music-related contents, 
  • demonstrate knowledge of the techniques of editing musical editions, 
  • demonstrate knowledge of sound and image recording techniques.

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

  • Matura or
  • vocational matura in any secondary school programme and an examination in the matura subject of music. If the candidate has already passed this subject in the vocational matura, an examination in any other matura subject which the candidate has not already taken in the vocational matura; or
  • school-leaving examination (prior to 1 June 1995) under any four-year secondary school programme.

To complete the study programme, students must complete all course units prescribed by the curriculum and individual syllabuses, for a total of 180 credits. In the final year of the programme students sit a diploma examination.
