The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) is a translation tool that helps communication and comparison between qualifications systems in Europe. Its eight common European reference levels are described in terms of learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and competences. This allows any national qualifications systems, national qualifications frameworks (NQFs) and qualifications in Europe to relate to the EQF levels. Learners, graduates, providers and employers can use these levels to understand and compare qualifications awarded in different countries and by different education and training systems.

  3. Bachelor of Natural Sciences in Biology (LU)

    - to master theoretical and practical courses of biology and basic courses of mathematics, physics and chemistry, - to study practical skills of nature research during a summer course; - to study advanced courses relating to a relatively specialised molecular or organism biology; - to carry out independent research (at least full 10 weeks or 10 credit points) in the selected sub-field of biology and present the result in the Bachelor's thesis developed on the level matching requirements for a scientific publication. The goal of the programme is to provide knowledge in a wide spectrum of general subjects of Biology and Natural Sciences and to commence specialisation in a selected field of Biological Sciences. Tasks of the programme: - to acquire background theoretical knowledge and basic practical skills in biology, and also in mathematics, physics and chemistry; - to obtain in-depth knowledge in a relatively specialised direction of molecular or organism biology; - to implement independent investigation in the selected subbranch of biology and to summarise results, in a bachelor theses, corresponding to the demands of scientific publication.   4. Master of Natural Sciences in Biology (Biology) (DU)

    - to obtain contemporary knowledge and skills in any of sub-branches of biology: plant physiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, botany, human and animal physiology, ecology, genetics, hydrobiology, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, zoology and master the understanding of general development tendencies of the biological science; - to obtain basic knowledge of innovative activities in biology; - under the guidance of the academic staff to carry out scientific research and present the result in the Master's thesis.     Aim of the programme: - is to prepare high level specialists in the field of nature recreation in compliance with its essential effect on local and national economics of Latvia, Lithuania and other European countries.   In frames of the programme the skills and abilities of scientific research work in the field of recreation have been developed, as well as deep knowledge in courses connected with biology and other related to it sub-branches. Within the programme a deep insight into the economically substantiated strategic planning of nature recreation, working out and managing the related to recreation projects have been obtained.
