    DefinitionA three-year theoretical and practical programme of study at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the University of Iceland. It provides 180 credit ECTS units and qualifies for the degree of baccalaureus scientiarum, BS. Entrance requirements are a student examination from a secondary school.  Preferable preparation is: Mathematics 21cr. (35 fein), science 30cr. (50 fein) of which 6cr. (10 fein) should be in physics, 6cr. (10 fein) in chemistry and 6cr. (10 fein) in geology. On completion of his/her studies the student should be able to demonstrate knowledge, ability and skills as follows: KnowledgeThe student has knowledge of the basic principles of mathematics, physics and chemistry relevant to geology.The student has knowledge of the various ideas and theories regarding Earth's origin, formation, morphology and history.The student has good knowledge of the key processes active on earth, and understands the interaction between processes and formation.The student has understanding of the appropriate scientific approaches and technical methods used in geology: observations in the field, experiments and modelling, as well as methods used in the analysis of data and in some experimental results.
