WTO panel rules against Indonesia's export limitations on raw materials
|
The EU welcomes the World Trade Organization's (WTO) clear ruling confirming that Indonesia's export ban and domestic processing requirement on nickel ore violates WTO rules. The WTO panel upheld all EU claims against Indonesia. It found that Indonesia's export ban and domestic processing requirement on nickel ore, which is used in the production of stainless steel, are inconsistent with the WTO's prohibition of export prohibitions and restrictions. The panel also confirmed that the Indonesian measures do not fall under the exemption for prohibitions or restrictions temporarily applied to prevent or relieve critical shortages of products essential to Indonesia and found that the measures are not justified by the exception for measures necessary to secure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

EU and Korea sign Digital Trade Principles
|
The Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis and Korean Minister for Trade Ahn Dukgeun co-chaired the 10th Trade Committee between the EU and the Republic of Korea.
Ministers agreed to add 85 new geographical indications to the EU-Korea Trade Agreement. They also signed a set of Digital Trade Principles, intensifying the EU-Korea relationship in the field of digital trade. The principles are also a key deliverable under the Digital Partnership signed by the two sides earlier this week. The agreement is a true success story, which has helped increase bilateral trade in goods by over 70% in ten years. It is also a critical framework for the two sides to advance on the digital transition and sustainable development.
The EU-Korea meeting also offered the opportunity for both sides to exchange views on their respective concerns with regard to the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Commission publishes latest Counterfeit and Piracy Watch List
|
The Commission’s third Counterfeit and Piracy Watch List names websites and physical marketplaces outside the EU that are reported to engage in, facilitate or benefit from counterfeiting and piracy. These activities undermine intellectual property rights of EU companies and creators, harm EU businesses and jobs, and threaten consumers' health and safety. The Watch List aims to encourage these services and marketplaces, as well as local enforcement authorities and governments, to take action to stop or prevent intellectual property infringements. It also aims to raise awareness among EU citizens of the environmental, product safety and other risks of purchasing from these potentially problematic markets.
