EU and Kenya advance talks on interim Economic Partnership Agreement with sustainability provisions
The EU and Kenya agreed to advance negotiations on an interim Economic Partnership Agreement (iEPA). This important agreement will enhance trade and investment opportunities and help boost sustainable economic growth and job creation. The iEPA will be complemented by binding commitments on environmental protection, climate and labour rights. It reflects the pending EPA initialled in 2014 between the EU and the East African Community (EAC). Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Trade, said: “On the day of the EU-African Union summit, we are delighted to announce our engagement with Kenya to boost our trade ties. We will now move forward with the Economic Partnership Agreement, and we will also negotiate the trade and sustainability aspects. Africa is much more than just our neighbour - it is our partner. The closer our economies, the greater the benefits for our people and businesses. This applies not just to our relations with Kenya, but to the entire Eastern Africa region and to Africa as a whole.”

European Commission imposes anti-dumping measures on fasteners from China
The European Commission published a regulation imposing anti-dumping duties on certain iron or steel fasteners imported from China. Duties have been set between 22.1% and 86.5%. The measures follow an investigation which showed the presence of significant dumping on the market, with Chinese imports heavily undercutting European sales prices and therefore injuring the European fasteners industry.

The objective of the high-level industry dialogue is to discuss the role of EU Industry in promoting sustainability standards through engagement with the GSP, as well as to investigate the economic impact of the scheme in terms of diversification of investments and supply chains. The discussions will serve as a forum to discuss ways to enhance the usage of GSP for European stakeholders, while providing case studies from selected beneficiary countries.
The discussion-driven format will allow stakeholders to engage in constructive conversations, through sharing their own experience on the usage of the GSP, while underlying its impact on their business. More information and registration at the link below.
