EU promotes World Trade Organization initiatives on Trade and Environment
The European Union committed on Wednesday to increase the role of trade in the fight against climate change and protecting the environment. It has signed up to three new initiatives to step up joint action in the World Trade Organization, sending a strong political signal on pursuing a strong environmental agenda for trade. The EU and a significant number of WTO countries will now work jointly on facilitating trade in green goods and services, promoting sustainable supply chains and the circular economy. They will also cooperate on battling plastic pollution and to enhance transparency of fossil fuel subsidies.

New EU - funded Eastern Partnership Trade Helpdesk launched
A new tool to support trade and investment between the EU and Eastern Partnership countries was launched on 15 December. The Eastern Partnership Trade Helpdesk will help open new market opportunities for importers and exporters in the EU and the Eastern Partnership countries. This platform will assist companies to identify new opportunities, potential partners and check necessary requirements and procedures.

Commission imposes anti-dumping duties on imports of steel wind towers from China
The Commission has published a regulation imposing definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of steel wind towers from China. The duties range from 7.2% to 19.2%. These measures serve to protect and defend EU producers and workers from trade distortive practices that harm EU manufacturing.

The Union for the Mediterranean Regional Platform on Trade and Investment convenes its second meeting in 2021
On 16 December 2021, the 2nd Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Regional Platform on Trade and Investment convened. The virtual event was co-chaired by the European Commission (DG TRADE) and Jordan. Within the framework of the Platform, representatives of Ministries of Trade of the 42 UfM Member States met to follow up on the implementation of the UfM Ministerial Conferences on Trade of 2021. The participants discussed sustainable trade, sustainable investment and regional integration based on presentations by the European Commission, the European Investment Bank and the International Trade Centre.

Civil Society Dialogues
Civil Society Dialogue meeting with Sabine Weyand on trade policy (including WTO 12th Ministerial Conference update) - Change of date
Due to the postponement of MC12 this meeting has been postponed too. Those who had registered for the 15/12 do not need to re-register for the new date. In this Civil Society Dialogue, Sabine Weyand, Director-General for Trade, will present the latest developments on EU trade policy priorities, what have been the main achievements and challenges and share her assessment of what to expect in the months ahead, including with respect to the WTO agenda. Registration closes on: 18 January 2022.

Invitation to submit inputs and comments on the EU-US TTC Working Group on Global Trade Challenges
The Directorate-General for Trade is seeking stakeholders’ inputs and comments on the EU-US cooperation on global trade challenges as part of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC). The Working Group 10 on Global Trade Challenges was specifically tasked to focus on the challenges from nonmarket economic policies and practices, avoiding new and unnecessary barriers to trade and investment in products and services of emerging technology, promoting and protecting labour rights and decent work, and (following further consultations) trade and environment issues. Closing date: 7 January 2022.

Invitation to submit inputs and comments on the EU-US Export Control Cooperation under the TTC
In order to inform the work of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council's (TTC) Export Controls Working Group, DG TRADE is seeking stakeholders’ inputs to identify concrete actions and expected outcomes of the areas and priorities for EU-US export control cooperation. Stakeholders are invited to consider actions that have the potential to make US and /or EU dual-use export control policies and practices more convergent, efficient and effective, and generally fit for today’s challenges. Closing Date: 16 January 2022.
