The EU and Norway agree on an interim appeal system in wake of the World Trade Organization Appellate Body blockage
|
On 21 October 2019, the EU and Norway notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of their interim appeal arbitration arrangement.
In this way, the EU and Norway secure an effective and binding dispute settlement for any potential trade disputes that might oppose them under the WTO law, in case the existing WTO Appellate Body stops being operational.

Civil Society Dialogue on Rules of Origin and Foreign Direct Investment Screening
|
On 7 November 2019, the European Commission will be holding a Civil Society Dialogue on Rules of Origin and Foreign Direct Investment Screening. The purpose of this meeting is to inform and exchange views with civil society on the development of the EU's approach to rules of origin in EU Trade Agreements. In addition, the Commission will give an update on the implementation of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) screening regulation adopted on 19 March 2019. Kindly note that registration closes on 4 November 2019, at midday.

EU-Ukraine (DCFTA) Civil Society Forum
|
On 7 November 2019, the 2nd EU-Ukraine Civil Society Forum under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) will take place in Brussels. Representatives from employers, unions, labour and business organisations, environmental groups, and other relevant civil society organisations are invited to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange views with one another, with officials from the European Commission, as well as from the Government of Ukraine, on matters related to the implementation of the DCFTA’s Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter. Details regarding registration will follow in the coming days.

On 12 November 2019, the 2nd EU-Canada Civil Society Forum under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) will take place in Ottawa, Canada. Participants will have the chance to exchange with one another, as well as with officials from the European Commission and from the Government of Canada, on matters related to the implementation of CETA's Trade and Sustainable Development, Trade and Labour, as well as Trade and Environment Chapters. 2019 Export Control Forum

On 13 December 2019, the European Commission and the Finnish Presidency of the Council are welcoming representatives from EU Member States, the European Parliament, industry and civil society to participate in the 2019 Export Control Forum. The 2019 Export Control Forum will provide an opportunity to review ongoing export control implementation and latest developments in the EU, as well as to discuss the future of EU and global international export controls. Kindly note that the deadline for registration is 1 December 2019.
