date:  20/05/2021

UNEP´s initiative ‘Global Opportunities for SDGS (GO4SDGs), together with the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and the One Planet Network- Programme on Sustainable Food Systems, are launching Regional Working Groups on Food Waste to provide capacity building on the measurement and reduction of food waste, and peer-to-peer collaboration between countries as they tackle similar food waste reduction challenges.

Four working groups will be convened for Asia Pacific, West Asia, Africa, and Latin America & the Caribbean. The working groups are expected to kick-off in June 2021.

Governments in each region were invited to respond to the Call for Expressions of Interest (which closed in April 2021) to propose their participation. Letters of commitment have been received from 72 Ministries and other stakeholders in 20 Member States.

The Regional Food Waste Working Groups are a targeted contribution to the delivery of the 2030 Agenda and the UN Food Systems Summit and are funded by the Federal Ministry of Environment of Germany (BMU).
