Number of deaths and disability from antimicrobial resistance varies greatly between EU Member States
|
Italy, Greece and Romania had more than five times the amount of death and disability due to AMR than Estonia, Netherlands and Finland. These findings, among others, by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control were recently published in the journal Lancet Infectious Diseases.

Deaths due to Antimicrobial Resistance could be prevented at little or no cost
|
A study funded through the EU Health Programme and carried out by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development estimates that AMR deaths could be prevented for a cost of less than 2 EUR per person per year, saving both lives and money within a short time after the initial investment.

How EU networks share knowledge to save lives - see the video of a 3-year-old’s road to recovery
|
A 3 year old was suffering from 20-30 seizures a day, and no one knew what to do. Through the EU’s epilepsy healthcare network, specialists united and were able to diagnose a very rare brain abnormality and prescribe the right treatment. Following surgery, the boy is on the path to recovery.

Latest Eurostat figures show that 1 in 4 people in the EU have a long-term disability
|
According to Eurostat, a quarter of the EU population aged 16 or over said they had long-standing disabilities in 2017, meaning they report mild to severe limitations in performing everyday activities for a period of six months or longer. International Day of Persons with Disabilities was held on 3 December.

Get the scientific reports, policy briefs and case studies from the Health Equity Pilot Project
|
The three-year project focused on health inequalities by identifying inequalities in nutrition and physical activity and alcohol consumption and outcomes, as well as the evidence of effective interventions. The final conference took place in Brussels on 6 December 2018.
