Syphilis notifications in the EU/EEA up by 70% since 2010, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control
|
The number of syphilis cases has been consistently increasing across Europe since 2010, mostly affecting men who have sex with men living in urban areas. In 2017, notification rates reached a record high in the EU/EEA countries with more than 33 000 reported cases.

Eurostat publishes new data on the causes and occurrence of deaths in the EU
|
In 2016, 5.1 million people died in the EU, which was some 80,000 fewer than in 2015. Heart attacks, strokes and cancer were the main causes, and 33% of the people who died were under the age of 75, 29% were between 75 and 85 and the remaining 38% were over the age of 85.
