EU Platform on Food Losses & Food Waste: setting priorities for a new mandate (2022-2026)
This is the first meeting of the Platform following its re-establishment with a new membership.

Today, Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, in charge of Health and Food Safety, will address the members of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste at its 12th meeting, which will take place virtually.

The agenda will address the operations and the priorities of the Platform over the next five years as it seeks to further mobilise action and drive food waste out of our food systems. Focused on steering action towards areas of greatest impact, the Platform's work will promote the definition of baselines, target setting and monitoring of results achieved.

During the meeting, the Commission will update members on the implementation of the Farm to Fork Strategy - including the preparation of the legislative proposal to set EU-level targets for food waste reduction - and will discuss the role of food loss and waste prevention and contribution of the Platform to the establishment of sustainable food systems. The Platform will also exchange on on-going and future projects, such as the European Consumer Food Waste Forum, a pilot project funded by the European Parliament. This multi-disciplinary forum will bring together researchers and practitioners to work together to find solutions and develop tools to help reduce consumer food waste.

Members will have the opportunity to express their views concerning the Platform’s main areas of work, objectives and deliverables, working together to shape the agenda of the expert group and the 5 sub-groups proposed for its new mandate: Food loss and waste monitoring, Date marking and food waste prevention, Consumer food waste prevention, Food donation and Action & Implementation.

The meeting will be web streamed for all of those interested in following the event.
