On 1 March, 2017, 24 thematic European Reference Networks began working, gathering together over 900 highly specialised healthcare units from 26 countries. Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, says the value of EU collaboration is particularly clear in the case of rare and complex diseases.

Procedure launched for Joint Actions 2017
Member State health authorities have been invited to nominate competent authorities for the actions co-financed (commonly called ‘Joint Actions’) in 2017, namely concerning health inequalities, action against cancer, vaccination, preparedness and actions at points of entry, e-health networks and health information.
