Welcome to the March issue

Welcome to the March quarterly newsletter from the Green Deal Projects Support Office. In this edition, we have a bumper issue of updates from the projects, new articles released based on their activities and upcoming events to look out for.

Working group reports - The Green Deal Projects Support Office's mission and focus is to support Green Deal-funded projects by enabling collaboration and networking; supporting the communication, dissemination and exploitation of results; and developing synergies with other policy initiatives.   • Encouraging sustainability - GREENSCENT project has ended and released video recordings of its final event discussing its achievements to increase awareness of environmental issues and encourage people to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
  • A just and fair transition - ACCTING is inviting poster submissions for its final event Empowering change: Building a fair and inclusive Green Deal on 29 April in Brussels, which is also open for registrations.
  • New approach to climate action - SHARED GREEN DEAL has published a paper on a new perspective to driving climate actions, by addressing the 'meso'- an aproach that sits in between systemic/infrastructural changes, and the actions of individuals.

  • Geothermal heating technology - ARV has just installed GeothermSkin, an innovative geothermal technology, in a new building under construction at Trento, Italy. This advanced technology uses the building's foundation and walls to capture and store heat, making it more energy-efficient. 
  • Engaging the community - PROBONO has published an article which explores how Brussels is tackling road safety and congestion with community-driven initiatives like the Brussels Living Lab and Mobility Week, to  promote safer, more sustainable urban mobility through local engagement and data-driven solutions.
  • Offering sustainable travel options - In the Stargate project, Brussels Airport is taking a step to inspire passengers and employees alike to embrace greener modes of transport, through its dedicated multimodal journey planner tool. By default, journey options are ranked by “saved CO2 emissions,” highlighting the greenest choices.
  • Aviation policy impact - TULIPS has gained significant recognition at local and national policy levels through various events and conferences. In particular, its hydrogen GPU (hGPU) has officially been featured in the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC – Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile)‘s national guidelines for its role in standardising hydrogen usage in ground handling activities.

ACCTING has critically examined the social and economic impacts of the European Green Deal on marginalised groups and developed innovative, evidence-based solutions that empower vulnerable communities and guide inclusive policymaking. Join this event to learn about actionable strategies for achieving a socially just and inclusive Green Deal.

Innovating with wildfire risk management – a new strategy for Europe, 20-21 May, Brussels

Join this event to learn about a proposal for an integrated wildfire risk management strategy for Europe, developed jointly by the research projects FirEUrisk, FIRE-RES, SILVANUS and TREEADS. This willl also be an opportunity to learn how the latest scientific breakthroughs and new technologies, developed by these projects, fit within the overall strategy framework and many more.

From data to action: empowering policies for sustainable choices, 13 May, Brussels

After four years of implementation, the PSLifestyle project comes to a close in 2025. It has engaged citizens across eight European countries and co-created the Lifestyle Test, a digital tool that supports individual behaviour change and generates big data insights to guide policy development. This final event will reflect on the project’s achievements and explore how the Lifestyle Test can continue to advance Europe’s sustainability goals. The event will also feature a high-level EU workshop that aims to foster a targeted dialogue between key actors (policymakers, researchers, industries, and civil society) on sustainable behaviours, their implications for policy and practice and scaling PSL insights and tools in Europe.

EU Green Week and Circular Solutions for a Competitive Europe, 3-5 June, Brussels

Save the date for this year's EU Green Week which is all about the circular economy. With its potential to drive sustainable competitiveness, reduce waste, and promote innovation, circular economy offers a compelling solution to some of the EU’s most pressing challenges. 

As well as policy discussions, there will also be a joint conference from the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) and the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ECESP) which will bring together  industry leaders, communities and other stakeholders to share ideas and inspire action.

European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2025, 10-12 June, Brussels and online

This major event brings together more than 10 000 participants from a broad range of sectors including policymakers, industry representatives, businesses, civil society organisations and citizens for a 3-day policy conference centred around Europe's competitive, clean and fair energy transition.
