The I3 Instrument 2024 Strands 1 and 2a calls for application are now open!

The European Commission launched two new I3 Instrument calls for proposal on 6 June 2024 with a combined budget of EUR 67 million. These calls are open to consortia of applicants from private organisations (SMEs, start-ups), public institutions and academia (universities, research organisations).

The Interregional Innovation Investments Instrument (I3) is part of the European Regional and Development Fund (ERDF) and aims to support interregional innovation projects during their commercialisation and scale-up phases. The I3 Instrument provides financial and advisory support to projects that are getting ready for investment to help them overcome key obstacles.

On June 6, the European Commission launched a call for proposals under the I3 Instrument for two key areas:

  • Strand1: Investments in interregional innovation projects
  • Strand 2a: Development of value chains in less developed regions

Through these efforts the I3 Instrument aims to enhance regional innovation ecosystems, foster stronger interregional cooperation and stimulate market uptake of innovative solutions.

Strand 1 targets consortia of innovation actors from regions with varied levels of development and innovation performance. Specifically, those who have shared or complementary smart specialisation areas and are ready to make investments in interregional innovation projects.

Strand 2a focuses on supporting interregional innovation investments aimed at developing value chains in less developed regions and reinforcing the integration of innovation actors in EU value chains.

The deadline for both applications is 5 December 2024, 17.00 CET.

A digital information session on the calls targeted at eligible applicants was organised online on 13 June 2024.

Please note that the recording of the event is available on the website, together with the link to the Power Point Presentation used during the event by the speakers.
