Achievements of cooperation with Ukraine in the final conference of Romania-Ukraine programme

On 17 April 2024, the closing conference of the 2014-2020 Romania-Ukraine programme took place in Suceava. This event brought together over 250 participants from Romania and Ukraine to celebrate the achievements of cross-border cooperation projects funded by the European Union.

We need cooperation now more than ever!

This is the main message from the closing conference of the Romania-Ukraine cooperation programme, where programme authorities and beneficiaries took stock of the past 8 years of cooperation.

The Romanian and Ukrainian partners from over 25 projects funded by the programme talked about the needs at the origin of the projects, the challenges encountered from the Covid-19 crisis to Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine... but they also focused on the huge satisfactions of making investments materialise on both sides of the border despite everything. What is more, the partnerships established will continue their good work under the 2021-2027 Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine programme.

After the final conference, REGIO representatives, the Managing Authority and the National Authority of Ukraine, visited several projects funded in in the border region. Among these, the fire-fighting training facility in Siret accessible to firefighters from both countries, the bi-lingual school in Balcauti renovated and equipped with IT equipment and interactive boards, the underground museum built in the historical center of Botosani.

We are now looking forward to seeing other interesting and inspiring cooperation projects under the calls for proposals which are currently being launched by the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine programme.  From what we could see and hear, we are very confident that the strong relationships recently established are there to last!
