Macro-regional and sea-basin strategies hand in hand for maximum impact

In the heart of Brussels, a unique networking event is set to unfold, bringing together minds from over 30 countries, spanning the diverse landscapes of Europe. The Macro-Regional and Sea Basin Strategies Days 2024, co-organized by the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy and the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, promises an exclusive on-site experience at The Egg from June 12 to 14, 2024.

This year's event is poised to be a game-changer, focusing on the four Macro-regional strategies (Alpine, Danube, Adriatic-Ionian, Baltic) and the three Sea Basin Strategies (Atlantic, Western Mediterranean, and Black Sea). The overarching theme, embodied by the hashtag #Strategies4cooperation, underscores the collaborative spirit that will define the discussions, workshops, and interactions throughout the event.  

Commissioners Elisa Ferreira (Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms) will grace the occasion, adding her insights to the diverse discussions.  

The Macro-Regional and Sea Basin Strategies Days 2024 aim to transcend geographical boundaries, providing a communication and networking platform for stakeholders, pillars coordinators, representatives of EU institutions, presidencies, and participating countries. The event sets the stage for knowledge exchange, the creation of new synergies, and the reinforcement of existing ones.  

 

Themes and Workshops: A Glimpse into the Conversations  

The event will feature interactive workshops focusing on key thematic areas, aligning with the overarching objectives of the seven strategies: 

  • Enlargement: Exploring the possibilities and challenges associated with expanding the reach and impact of the strategies.  
  • Climate Change: Addressing the urgent need for coordinated efforts in the face of climate challenges, fostering sustainable development. 
  • Clusters and Innovation: Delving into the realms of innovation and cluster development to drive economic growth and competitiveness. 
  • Embedding in post-2027: Anticipating and adapting to the future landscape of European policies and strategies. 
  • Civil Society Engagement: Recognizing the pivotal role of civil societies in shaping and contributing to the success of regional strategies.

    • In a plenary session dedicated to young voices, participants will witness the vibrant ideas of the next generation, offering their perspectives on the European Union.  

     

    Speed-Dating with a Purpose: Building Connections   

     A unique feature of this event is the speed-dating moment, where stakeholders will have the opportunity to engage in rapid, purposeful conversations with their counterparts from various European Commission services. This dynamic interaction aims to foster collaboration, spark innovative ideas, and build connections that transcend bureaucratic boundaries.
