European Funds made possible the creation of a new Institute for Applied Research in the Aeronautical Industry in Toledo, Spain

With an investment of more than 3.23 million euros, of which 893,000 euros corresponds to scientific equipment, the building that today houses the Institute for Applied Research in the Aeronautical Industry, also known as INAIA, has been refurbished and adapted for research activity through the co-financing of the Castilla La Mancha ERDF 2014-2020 operational programme, aimed at promoting research, technological development and innovation.

"Between 2018 and 2023 INAIA has generated national, regional and international projects plus contracts with companies for almost 3.6 million euros," said the rector, Julián Garde, in his speech, during the inauguration of the Institute, on the 27th of November, stressing the importance of research in the generation of wealth.

The director general of Universities in Spain, Ricardo Cuevas, underlined the importance of the aeronautical sector and said that "we are going to be very attentive because you are a reference at regional level".

In his speech, the Mayor of Toledo, Carlos Velázquez, called for strengthening the collaboration between the City Council and the University, which "yields very positive results for the city". Inaugurating the INAIA "is very important and places Toledo at the forefront", said Velázquez, who emphasized the commitment of the University and the City Council "to improve the health of the Tagus River on a daily basis" through the future wastewater treatment plant.

The event also incorporated a visit to the INAIA facilities, where the research staff showed the attendees the work carried out in the Mechatronics, Numerical Controlled Manufacturing, Materials, Structures and Propulsive Systems laboratories.
