EU Cohesion policy: €52 million of EU investments for new bypass road around Poręba and Zawiercie, Poland

Today the European Commission has approved an investment of more than € 52 million from the European Regional Development Fund for the construction of a new bypass road around Poręba and Zawiercie in Poland.

Today the European Commission has approved an investment of more than € 52 million from the European Regional Development Fund for the construction of a new bypass road around Poręba and Zawiercie in Poland.

The 16.66 km new bypass will run from where the Siewierz dual carriageway section of national road 78 ends, near the junction with regional road 793, to the junction with regional road 791. It will replace the current section of NR 78 running through the centres of Poręba and Zawiercie.

The bypass will have two 3.5m wide traffic lanes in each direction and a design speed of 80 km/h. Junctions will be built with the old route of national road 78 and at Kuznica and Kromolow. In some place around the junction, the roadway will be widened to accommodate sewer inlets. Moreover, environmental protection devices such as acoustic screens and a drainage system comprising rainwater drains will be built.

The project will relieve urban areas of excessive traffic, which will improve road safety, increase the reliability of the road network and reduce the environmental impact of transport.
