EU Cohesion Policy: €137 million for the development of water and wastewater infrastructure in Maramures County, Romania

Thanks to a new EU investment of €137 million, citizens in Maramures County will benefit from an improved water and wastewater infrastructure network. The investment from the Cohesion Fund was approved by the European Commission.

The investment concerns the first phase of the project. The project will provide for 126.74 km of new water distribution network and rehabilitate 6.37 km. A total of 32 reservoirs will be built and 4 existing ones rehabilitated. One water treatment plant and three water catchments will be rehabilitated and 19 chlorination stations will be built and one rehabilitated.

Now, a total of 77 % of the population in Maramures County is connected to the water supply network, of which 63.1 % (in 2018) had access to water that met EU drinking water quality standards. The aim is to increase both the connection and compliance rate to 92% with the completion of both phases of the project.
