The European Commission has approved to phase over to the 21-27 programming period the extension of the Nausicaa sea centre, in Boulogne-sur-mer.

The European Commission has approved to phase over to the 21-27 programming period the extension of the Nausicaa sea centre , in Boulogne-sur-mer.

This extension, co-financed with €17 million from the European Regional Development Fund, will allow the construction of more than 10.000m³ of basins and almost 25.000m² of buildings, amongst which the new Exposure loop “Aventure dans le Grand Nord”, bringing the total surface of Nausicaa to almost 60.000m² compared to 35.000m² prior extension.

In terms of visitors, the extended Nausicaa aims to receive up to 1 million visitors which is a significant increase compared to the 610.000 visitors the centre is receiving already today.

The extension of the Nausicaa sea centre is embedded in the regional strategy for the development of Nord Pas-de-Calais. The project will reinforce the links between economy, research and development and leisure activities.
