REACT-EU: €314.35 million for Poland, Hungary and Martinique for crisis repair and recovery measures

The Commission has granted €314.35 million to Poland, Hungary and Martinique under the Recovery Assistance for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe (REACT-EU) following the modification of three Operational Programmes (OP) of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and one amendment of the European Social Fund (ESF).

In Poland, €65.15 million will be allocated to Silesia and Lower Silesia to improve the quality and accessibility of health services in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, as well as of specialised medical services for cancer and mental disorders in two hospitals, to reduce air pollution, support the use of renewable energy sources and improve energy efficiency in public buildings, and to maintain the competitiveness of SMEs and keeping jobs in companies affected by the pandemic.

In Hungary, €219.2 million will be added to the ‘Environment and Energy Efficiency’ OP to support a green and resilient post-pandemic recovery through energy efficiency renovations of public buildings, renewable energy production and capacity increase for security of supply, flood prevention, sustainable management of water resources, and the development of quality green infrastructure in Budapest.

The French outermost region Martinique receives an additional €30 million with the amendment of its ESF OP to finance actions to support jobseekers (notably women, young and older people, and pupils with learning difficulties that have been affected by the coronavirus crisis). The funding will also contribute to retaining employment in small companies and improving job mobility. New initiatives with employers at local level, as well as new support measures to combat exclusion, and inequalities will be developed.

REACT-EU is part of NextGenerationEU and provides €50.6 billion additional funding (in current prices) over the course of 2021 and 2022 to Cohesion Policy programmes.
