EU Cohesion policy: €908.8 million for Czechia and France to tackle the social and economic impact of the coronavirus crisis

The Commission has approved the modification of two European Regional Development Fund operational programmes (OPs) under REACT-EU to increase by €908.8 million the funding available for investments for Czechia and France to help tackle the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

In Czechia, the modification of the ‘Integrated Regional OP’ will make available an extra €834.8 million to strengthen the healthcare system, the integrated rescue system and the social infrastructure also increasing its energy efficiency.

Moreover, new investments will help to develop, modernize and strengthen the resilience of the network of healthcare providers with a particular emphasis on vulnerable patients.

Finally, the programme will support the construction and equipment of facilities that will increase the quality of social services.

In France, the amendment of the ‘Bretagne OP’ will finance with an extra €74 million projects contributing to the green and digital transitions, measures to tackle the economic impact of the coronavirus crisis and fostering economic recovery, as well as investment in products and services for health services.

More than 60% of the additional funding will support green investments, notably consisting in energy renovation of buildings, development and distribution of renewable energy sources (in particular green hydrogen, electric charging stations, smart grids, etc.), conversion of brownfield sites and rehabilitation of degraded areas with a view to restoring biodiversity.

REACT-EU is part of NextGenerationEU and provides €50.6 billion additional funding (in current prices) over the course of 2021 and 2022 to Cohesion policy programmes. Measures focus on supporting labour market resilience, jobs, SMEs and low-income families, as well as setting future-proof foundations for the green and digital transitions and a sustainable socio-economic recovery.
