We are thrilled to announce that Mr Michel Barnier, former EU Chief Brexit negotiator and former Commissioner for regional policy from 1999 to 2004, has accepted the invitation made by Commissioner Ferreira to become the Honourable Chair of the jury for the 2021 Regiostars Awards.

This decision brings prestige and additional relevance to a competition that is widely recognized as the main occasion to put under the spotlight excellent EU projects financed by Cohesion Policy.
“It will be a privilege to be the Chair of the 2021 Regiostars Awards Jury” Mr Barnier said, “I have long been an elected local representative and I am convinced that each of our 242 regions is rich in its diversity and has talent and potential. I am looking forward to discovering a lot of innovative projects all around Europe with a positive impact on EU citizens’ day to day life. There are excellent projects funded by Cohesion Policy out there. We want them to shine.”
Regiostars Awards application period ends on 9 May. Projects will be evaluated by the Jury during the month of July and finalists will be announced in early September. Finalist will be also invited to present their projects during the EURegionsWeek from 11 to 14 October. Winners, including the Public Choice Award winner, will be unveiled during the Awards Ceremony, that this year will be held on 2 December in Dubrovnik, at the presence of Commissioner Ferreira and Jury Chair Michel Barnier.
