10 years of European Union-Council of Europe cooperation to promote democratic values in the Southern Mediterranean region

Held on 8-9 June 2022 in Casa Mediterráneo, Alicante, Spain, a regional conference took stock of a decade of progress of the South Programme, an EU-Council of Europe joint initiative to promote democracy, rule of law and human rights in the Southern Mediterranean.

Countering terrorism and violent extremism: towards a human-rights coordinated approach in the Southern Mediterranean region

To support regional dynamics around the prevention and fight against radicalisation, violent extremism and terrorism, a regional conference “Countering terrorism and violent extremism: towards a human-rights coordinated approach”, was held on 22-23 June 2022 in Tunis.

Regional workshop on "Effective inter-institutional cooperation and coordination in preventing and combating economic crime" was held in Rabat

The objective pf the workshop was to raise awareness and promote exchanges between the relevant institutions in the Southern Mediterranean responsible for the fight against economic crime.

The Festival of Mediterranean Citizens: Debating with citizens to build a better future

On 2nd June, the city of Catania, in Sicily, hosted the Festival of Mediterranean Citizens. The event, of international scope, brought together citizens willing to shape collective action, anchored in the shared values, practices, knowledge and heritage of the region.

Clima-Med's second film of a series celebrates Jordanian cities' commitment to tackling climate challenges

Taking the viewers around the cities, "A Glimpse of Hope" is centred around inspiring stories of its inhabitants and local actors, their actions, and solutions to fight for a more sustainable future for the next generation. The film also shows the engagement of the European Union, promoting the green transition in the Southern Neighbourhood region.

The 8th Steering Committee Meeting of the Council of Europe CyberSouth Project takes stock of the achievements and identifies new joint activities with the countries from the Southern Neighbourhood region.

On 16 and 17 June 2022, the European Commission and the Cybercrime Programme Office of the Council of Europe together with representatives from Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Jordan met for the 8th Steering Committee meeting of the CyberSouth project, in Bucharest, Romania.

Le Projet SOLIFEM a organisé un atelier de formation et d’échanges d’expériences sur les thèmes de la reconnaissance des compétences et de l’appui aux processus de transition vers l’économie formelle

Cet atelier, qui s’est tenu les 17 et 18 mai derniers à Alger, s’est déroulé en collaboration avec le Centre de Formation Internationale de l’OIT à Turin (CIF-Turin) et avec l’intervention des spécialistes technique de l’OIT.

Euromed Justice – Conference on Environmental Law – Tunis, 22-23 June

A conference on environmental law was organised by the EMJ Programme in close coordination with Algeria, the French and Tunisian Ministries of Justice, under the French Presidency to the EU Council. It took place in Tunis, Tunisia, on 22 and 23 June. The main aim of the event was to explore the development of a network of magistrates specialised in environmental law on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea.
