European Commission welcomes the endorsement by ICAO of the key parameters of the first-ever global scheme to tackle CO2 emissions in the aviation sector
The International Civil Aviation Organization Council (ICAO) endorsed the key parameters of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation to tackle CO2 emissions in the aviation sector. It represents the first-ever global scheme to reduce CO2 emissions from aviation. The European Union has played a central role in securing the deal, which illustrates EU's global leadership in the fight against climate change. This is a new milestone in our commitment to reduce the aviation carbon footprint in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

CO2 emissions from aviation
Without any action, CO2 emissions from aviation are set to grow by up to 300% by 2050. Action by the aviation sector to reduce its carbon footprint is also a first step to reach the objectives of the Paris Agreement and keep global warming well below 2°C.
